WATER CONSERVATION TIPS: What can I do to help?

Check out this free online tool to help understand your personal water use:

These simple tips can help eliminate thousands of gallons of water waste, and save you money.

- Install water-flow restrictors in both shower heads and faucets.

- Never pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it, such as watering a plant, garden or for general cleaning purposes.

- Repair leaky faucets by replacing washers.  A dripping faucet at a rate of one drop per second can waste 2,700 gallons per year!

- Do not use running water to thaw meats and other frozen foods.

- Use dishwashers with full loads.

- Always use the appropriate water level in the clothes washer based on the size of the load.

- Don't let water run while shaving or washing your face.  Brush your teeth while waiting for the water to get hot, then wash or shave after filling the basin.

Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily.  Dispose of tissues, insects, and similar waste in a trash bin instead.
